BOAT SQUATTERS OR WATER WALKERS

As long as you stay in the boat you will never walk on the water!

I'll confess right up front - during my early Christian life, I never was a great fan of King David in the Old Testament, or of Peter the Fisherman in the New Testament. They both ultimately reminded me of "me." They demonstrated great spiritual insight one moment, and ten minutes later they plummeted to the bottom of the spiritual pit.

Just like you and me.

But, I never forgot that they were willing to try. After all of his mistakes, David was called "a man after God's own heart." And, only one man in recorded history ever walked on water - Peter! That dark and stormy night at least eleven other men stayed huddled up tight in the bowels of their fishing boat watching Peter become a Water Walker.

People can always be divided into Water Walkers or Boat Squatters!

The call from God is always the same: an open invitation to trust Jesus Christ, to leave the safety and security of a particular boat, and accomplish the impossible.

You know, that night there were some good men who were Boat Squatters. James, John, Andrew, and Thomas to name a few. Maybe they were too interested in their retirement plans, a paid off mortgage, or making sure that the kids' college tuition was covered before they tried Water Walking.

I mean, after all, who in his right mind would even think about walking on water, let alone want to do it. It doesn't rank right up there with watching the Dow Jones average inch up the chart, or going on a vacation with the family. You know, Water Walking is just not prudent. It is not safe, and it doesn't conform to the laws of physics. There just does not seem to be any socially redeeming practical value to Water Walking at all.

Folks, our world is full of Boat Squatters and is desperately in need of some Water Walkers! Men and Women of faith who listen for God's voice in the dark stormy nights and do His bidding.

Could you not just turn up your spiritual hearing aid to see if Jesus may not be gently inviting you to slip over the rail of the boat and join him in a little walk on the water. You may have to leave the comfort and security of your investments and toys for a bit, but you will have the experience of a life time.

Life provides you with marvelous opportunities to Walk on Water with Jesus.

But first, you have to get out of the boat.
